ABOUT THE FILM
Expectations is a fifteen-minute drama-comedy short film — the debut production from RDMovies Ltd.
KODJA has been carrying an engagement ring in his pocket for six months. He wants to propose to his girlfriend DENISE — but something between them has quietly broken down, and he cannot propose until he understands what.
Over drinks at his friend JOSH's house, the two men trade honest, funny and uncomfortably real stories about love and relationships. Underneath the laughter, both men are quietly circling the same truth.
When MITCHELLE arrives at the door — battered, bruised and clutching her baby — the evening changes completely. Their mutual friend Peter has crossed a line none of them can laugh off. What follows forces both men to look hard at themselves and what it truly means to love someone well.
Expectations is a film about men learning to communicate before it's too late.
WHY THIS FILM
Domestic abuse affects 2.1 million people in England and Wales every year. Behind most of those statistics is a failure of communication — between partners, between friends, between men who never learned to talk about what they feel.
Expectations approaches this conversation from an unexpected angle — with warmth, humour and honesty. It shows men holding each other accountable in real time. It shows women demanding to feel loved in the way they need to feel loved. It shows what healthy looks like alongside what harmful looks like — in the same fifteen minutes.
This film belongs in cinemas, community screenings, schools and relationship workshops — anywhere people are trying to understand each other better.
